Antonio López was appointed by the City of East Palo Alto to the Board of Directors of the Bay Area Water Supply and Conservation Agency effective Jul 1, 2021. The city’s water utility is operated and managed by a private contractor, American Water Services, Inc. The service area is a residential community with some commercial and industrial development.
Mr López was elected to the City Council in November 2020. He serves as the alternate on the Board of Directors of Commute.org, as well as on the New Market Tax Credit Advisory Board.
Antonio López is an activist working at the intersections of academia, poetry, and politics.
As district representative for State Senator Josh Becker, he serves as the liaison for the Latinx, veteran, and Muslim communities of state district 13. His debut poetry collection, Gentrification, was selected by Gregory Pardlo as the winner of the 2019 Levi’s Prize in Poetry. Antonio his currently fighting gentrification in his hometown as the newest and youngest councilmember for the City of East Palo Alto.
He holds degrees from Duke University, Rutgers-Newark, and the University of Oxford. He is pursuing a PhD in Modern Thought and Literature at Stanford University.
